Eat Less and Have More Energy

The key is staying hydrated. How much water did you drink today? If it was not a lot you are not alone. Hydration is a tricky thing because feeling thirsty occurs when we are extremely dehydrated. Most of the time when we are dehydrated we eat thinking we are hungry.

Benefits of hydration

  • Increased energy
  • Skin looks better
  • Improved Digestion
  • Liver and kidneys have an easier time flushing toxins

Signs of dehydration

  • Constipation
  • Headache
  • Tiredness
  • Dry skin

How to Make Hydration A Habit

First thing in the morning

Drink one to two glasses when you first wake up. The first week might be a struggle, but then you get used to it. You can add lemon to the water.

Now set your alarm

Pick two set times during the day and drink two more glasses each time. The best time varies person to person. You want to pick a time away from meals- at least ½ hour before meals or an hour after. Set your phone to remind you until this step becomes a habit. I like 11:00 and 3:00 as these times are typically hours when dehydration is mistaken for hunger. This of course leads to over eating, as you were not really hungry in the first place.

Drink around dinner

Drink one glass a ½ hour before and another an hour after dinner.

If you exercise drink another one to two glasses. This can be done either before, during or after your workout.

Some people need to stop drinking a few hours before bed so they do not wake up during the night to use the restroom. See what works for you. You can also try a warm cup of herbal tea at night.

Start to eat your water

Eat fruits and vegetables with high water content.

Some examples are:

  • Radishes
  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Berries
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
