Why I Use An Infrared Sauna
I sit quietly in a warm enclosure for 30 minutes and get better skin, clearer thoughts, great sleep, reduced stress, and reduced muscle soreness. Those are the things I feel, but what about detoxification, weight loss, and improved circulation? Those are additional benefits of an Infrared Sauna.
A traditional sauna uses heat to warm the air and that is how your body is warmed.
An infrared sauna uses light to create heat and heat the body. It is the invisible light called infrared without the dangerous ultraviolet light. When I hear ultraviolet I think sunburn. Infrared, on the other hand, is beneficial and penetrates the skin. There are different types of infrared saunas and the one I use is a Far Infrared Sauna. FAR describes where the infrared waves fall on the light spectrum. Far infrared penetrates deep into the body and can increases circulation so the body can get rid of toxins.
Dr. Mark Hyman, author of The Blood Sugar Solution 10-Day Detox Diet says,
“On a purely physical note, sauna therapy can improve circulation, help with weight loss, balance blood sugar and improve detoxification. While the exact mechanism is not clear, it is likely due to its effects on calming the nervous system, relaxing the muscles, and increasing vasodilation.”- Mark Hyman, MD (source)
I originally searched for an infrared sauna on a recommendation from my doctor. You can read about it in my earlier post about choosing to remove my silver dental fillings. I went solely to help rid my body of heavy metals but found myself coming out feeling relaxed. I am now going to sessions as I am doing a Spring Whole Food Cleanse and want to support my body further in the detoxification process.
One concern that comes up with Far Infrared Sauna is EMF (electromagnetic field) exposure. The Far Infrared Sauna that I use is low EMF.
If you are in Fairfield County this is where I go to use the Infrared Sauna.
