7 Ways to a Better Night’s Sleep

Sleep is so important to good health. I notice when I don’t sleep well that I make bad food decisions, my concentration is off and I am just not productive.

Here are some things to try to get a good night sleep:

  1. Turn off electronics

90 minutes before put away the iPhone and computer. If you must work you can install a free program called F.LUX that blocks the blue light on your computer.

  1. Daytime exposure to light

Getting a morning dose of light can set you up for a good night’s sleep. If you can’t get outdoors a Verilux® light may help.

  1. Tea

A cup of herbal tea like Chamomile is a nice way to end the day. I include collagen protein and MCT oil.   The MCT oil really helps with cravings.

  1. Lavender essential oil

Lavender is a relaxing smell that can be applied directly to the pillow or diffused.

  1. Tart Cherry Juice

Cherry is a natural source of melatonin. 2 ounces of cherry juice drank twice a day may help with sleep.

  1. Magnesium

There are so many options for magnesium. I either take Natural Vitality Natural Calm 1 teaspoon in water or I spray magnesium directly on my skin.

  1. Yoga

Just a five-minute pose of legs up the wall can be relaxing before bed. The name really describes it.

If I have done all or most of the above and find I am still waking in the middle of the night I need to go back to what I ate that day.   A glass of wine affects my sleep as does sugar and not enough time between dinner and bed. It takes some detective work, but it is worth trying to figure out.
